The large-scale development of the Internet of Things (IoT) hinges on low-cost, low-power, and wide-coverage connectivity for a massive number of terminal devices. Traditional wireless communication modules suffer from issues such as high power consumption, short communication ranges, and weak signal penetration, making it difficult to meet the IoT devices’ requirements for “massive deployment and long-term operation.” Technological breakthroughs in low-power IoT communication modules—achieved by adopting low-power communication protocols and optimizing hardware designs—have enabled “long-distance, low-power, and highly reliable” wireless communication, providing crucial support for the large-scale implementation of the IoT.
The manufacturing and production phase employs a hardware architecture featuring “multi-protocol chips + low-power design.” The module is equipped with industrial-grade, low-power communication chips that support three mainstream low-power wireless communication protocols: LoRa, NB-IoT, and Cat-M1. Users can flexibly select the protocol based on their specific application scenarios: The LoRa protocol supports point-to-point communication up to 3 kilometers, making it ideal for short-distance, low-rate device interconnections; while the NB-IoT and Cat-M1 protocols leverage operator networks to achieve wide-area coverage, with communication distances exceeding 10 kilometers and supporting massive device connections. In terms of hardware design, the module utilizes low-power component selection and optimized power management, resulting in a working current as low as 20 mA and a sleep current of only 1 μA. Combined with a heartbeat packet wake-up mechanism, this design enables battery-powered devices to achieve an ultra-long battery life of over five years. Meanwhile, the module boasts an IP67 protection rating and operates reliably within a wide temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, making it well-suited for deployment in challenging outdoor and underground environments.
In terms of features and advantages, this module boasts three core highlights: “multi-protocol compatibility, ultra-low power consumption with extended battery life, and high reliability.” Its multi-protocol compatibility enables it to meet the communication needs of various IoT scenarios—whether it’s short-range device networking or wide-area device interconnection, the module can handle them all with flexibility. Ultra-low power consumption and extended battery life significantly reduce the operational and maintenance costs of IoT devices, eliminating the need for frequent battery replacements, making it particularly well-suited for deploying devices in remote areas and hard-to-reach locations. High reliability is ensured through channel error correction, retransmission mechanisms, and anti-interference design, guaranteeing a data transmission success rate exceeding 99.5% and maintaining stable communication even in complex electromagnetic environments.
The application areas cover core scenarios in the Internet of Things: In smart security, it serves as the communication hub for smoke detectors, door and window sensors, and infrared detectors, enabling real-time transmission of alarm information and status data to ensure home and public safety. In smart water management, it is integrated into water meters and water quality sensors, facilitating remote collection and transmission of water consumption and water quality data, thereby supporting intelligent monitoring and management of water resources. In smart logistics, it is embedded in logistics packages and cold-chain transport containers, providing real-time monitoring of location information and ambient temperature and humidity, thus enabling end-to-end traceability of goods. Additionally, it can be applied to a wide range of IoT devices such as smart streetlights, intelligent trash bins, and environmental monitoring terminals, helping to build a comprehensive, intelligently interconnected network.
In the future, as 5G IoT technology continues to evolve, low-power IoT communication modules will integrate the 5G NR Lite (RedCap) protocol, enabling higher-speed, low-power communications while enhancing edge computing and positioning capabilities. This will support precise device localization and local data preprocessing—for instance, combining GPS/Beidou positioning for asset tracking and leveraging local computation to filter out invalid data. These advancements will further drive the IoT toward a direction characterized by "ubiquitous connectivity, low power consumption, and high intelligence," providing stronger wireless connectivity support for the development of smart cities and smart industries.
